Estate fruit plus the St James's vineyard. This release is more about the earthiness and bramble reflective of the majority of the fruit coming from Little Creek and Basket Range, but it still sits comfortably in our usual house style - a dance of aromatics and tannin. Sadly tiny yields so not much available... 500 dozen made
Vineyards: Little Creek, Basket Range, Scary Gully & St James (Uraidla):
Vine age: 6-37 years
Clones: MV6, D5V12, Martini, Pommard, 114, 115, 777, 828 & 667
Elevation: 500-620 metres
Aspect: East-west (Monomeith), north-south (Little Creek), South (Piccadilly), South-east & South-west (Spary Gully), North (Uraidla).
Soils: Light loamy clay over sandstone with extensive schist and quartz rubble.
Vinification: Mostly 20% whole cluster open-top fermentation for three weeks, but the blend includes some shorter macerated 100% whole bunch ferments. Eight months in French oak barriques and puncheons,15% new.
